Best way to talk while gaming on PC?

I own a gaming PC and my friend has just ordered parts for his own. We would like to talk to each other whilst we play games like Call of Duty. I was planning to use Skype but is there anything better to use?

    I like Mumble, which is a bit more complicated to set up, but has a lower latency than Skype. That's all important in games because that second or so in Skype is the difference between, in say Left 4 Dead, "look out there's a zombie behind you" and "look out there's a- oh, it's already eating your face"
