So... why do people in the UK always start sentences with the word "So" when explaining things?

Whats going on? Is it a modern thing or what? It never used to be this way did it?

I don't know, but I do it too and I am a 62 year old American. It really annoys me when I am training and I start expository sentences with "so." It is hard to simply stop.

That's funny. The other day some Brit was here asking why Americans do this.
