What is Mathew 6 basically saying?

Matthew 6 is the Lord's explanation and commands regarding the most important acts which we can perform as sons and priests of Adonai, called almsgiving. Almsgiving is not tithing or giving of material resources alone. It involves every aspect of what Jesus mentions here, all of which represents our degree of intimacy with God and demonstrates divine love itself (Greek 'agape,' God Himself is 'agape' 1 John 4:8,16).
If you have ever wondered why the Elohim (the 'sons of God' or 'angels') visit certain persons and not others, you will find the answer in almsgiving. Each time a person is honored with such a visitation, we can see that they were well known for their almsgiving and the lifestyle Jesus describes in Matthew 6, or were very poor and oppressed themselves but exhibited this same spirit of almsgiving and lifestyle. This is the one trait that all prophets and holy men share in common, regardless of age, background, ethnicity or gender. God expects this of us and confirms the authenticity of this lifestyle with a special blessing, which comes as a surprise to most who are busy practicing it. Upon arrival, you will notice that the messenger of God first calms the fear and bewilderment of the person, greeting them with peace in order to restore their mind to alertness and clear imagination. After this, he almost always explains that certain actions of theirs have come up before Adonai as a 'memorial,' meaning that something we are doing is reminding God of someone or something He loves. These actions are described in detail for us and then the message from God is delivered to us for our encouragement, strengthening and continued work. The experience takes place entirely within our mind, not external to it, so it is not what modern medicine calls a 'hallucination.' However, others may also witness this event or feel it deeply without seeing the vision itself, since the same internal mental abilities are commonly shared human traits and the Elohim are able to use this 'secret closet' to reach us for correction, training and equipment for continuing our intimate pursuit of righteousness through love of others, especially the genuinely oppressed.

Jesus prepared his listeners to handle day-to-day situations! Just consider his most famous discourse—the Sermon on the Mount. Rich in practical advice are the words recorded in Matthew chapters 5 through 7
This Sermon also shows having the proper view of material and spiritual things, and the like. (Matthew 6:1-4, 19-21, 24-34) Jesus even showed his audience how to seek God’s help by teaching them how to pray. (Matthew 6:9-13)
We keep on doing good when we mercifully forgive someone who sins against us. In fact, part of Jesus’ model prayer contains the words: “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” (Matt. 6:12) Of course, this does not refer to forgiving financial debts. Luke’s Gospel shows that the “debts” Jesus had in mind are sins, for it says: “Forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone that is in debt to us.”—Luke 11:4.

6:1 starts out:
Take good care not to practice your righteousness in front of men in order to be observed by them; otherwise you will have no reward with your Father who is in the heavens.” (Matt. 6:1) By “righteousness,” Jesus meant conduct that conforms to the divine will. He did not mean that godly deeds should never be done in public, for he had told his disciples to “let [their] light shine before men.” (Matt. 5:14-16)

Don't worship God in a manner to impress other people. Don't worry about your daily needs. God will take care of you. Seek God and his righteousness.

Be sure what you are doing is not done with PRIDE or DESIRE for material matters. That what you are doing is done through Divine Will NOT Self Will.
Best Wishes!

The fact of the matter is God is saying do not seek mans rewards, seek God rewards which is heaven when you pray, don't seek the praise of man, because that is nothing compared to God reward, which is heaven.
