Expressing yourself creatively like journaling, drawing, painting, writing poetry, basically keeping yourself occupied so that your mind doesn't focus on your depression and emotions. Distract yourself. Watch a movie, spend time with your pet if you have one, do some volunteer work... (I have depression myself and these things help).

If the depression is completely organic, meaning, it isn't necessarily an event or situation that is causing it, then I'd say that you'd pretty much need therapy/help of some sort (could be self-help, though I am skeptical someone depressed would be able to apply it properly to really help them) and/or medication. If the depression is situational, therapy might help, but it is more time that is needed to snap out of it.
