    LET SPEED OF BOAT IN STILL WATER BE X MPH

    AND SPEED OF CURRENT BE Y MPH

    UPSTREAM SPEED = ( X-Y) MPH

    DOWNSTREAM SPEED =( X+Y) MPH

    SPEED = DISTANCE / TIME

    X- Y = 231/7 =33

    X +Y = 329/7 = 47

    ADD 2X = 80

    X = 40 MPH Y = 7 MPH ANSWER

    CHECK

    231 / ( 40-7) = 7 HOURS = 329 / (40+7)

    v=d/t

    231/7=b-s and 329/7=b+s solving 1st for s=b-231/7 and using it in 2nd

    329/7=b+b-231/7

    329/7=2b-231/7

    2b=560/7

    b=40km/h
