What really is true love?

It's funny, but when you fall in genuine love, you may not even realize it directly or associate it with the person involved. What happens is that life seems to light up around you. You look at trees and see 20 shades of green - water suddenly tastes wonderful - you have energy - things like that. You can also get stupid and put your briefcase in the refrigerator, or leave your front door open all night. You fill with emotion too - you feel everything. People find you engaging, interesting, charming - and you find many of them to be the same way. You remember that you've always wanted to study Renaissance art or learn french or things like that. In short, your life lights up with interest, emotion, energy, and enthusiasm. It may take a friend to say hey dummy, do you realize you're in love? And you might go huh? And then talk for five minutes about how fascinating parking garages are, something like that. It's funny and endearing to see someone in love. There's no mistaking it either. You'll know it, just maybe not the first day, or first week.

The problem lies in the definition. "Love" is a name we use to describe a wide variety of emotional states...They are not all the same.

"Falling in love"...That wild, heady, almost sick feeling that most people experience at one time or another.. That's mostly biochemical. Phermones, attractiveness, compatibility... Sets up an emotional cascade that's simply meant to produce sexual attractiveness and offspring.

Many think of this as "true love" because it's so emotionally affecting, but it's transitory. Almost never lasts. Some couples find that after the initial rush wears off, they still are attracted to each other, but many find that they don't even particularly like the other person.....Which can be seen from our current 50% divorce rate.

"Falling in love" should not be a prelude to immediate marriage.

Some would indicate that a long-lasting, mature sort of love based on mutual respect and such would be "true love".....But in many cases people have just learned to live comfortably with each other and don't really have a powerful emotional bond any more....

There are many other kinds of "love" as well.....Love of siblings, love of interests like football or fishing..... Love of country/patriotism.....Love of particular causes or ideologies....

I don't think "true love" could be well-defined. There are just different degrees of emotional involvement.

Love is an emotion. Sex is a physical activity. People love their parents or kids or dog, but don't have sexual relationships with them. Love is due to a chemical reaction in the brain that causes you to feel strong, positive emotions toward someone. You care about them greatly and want to be in each other's life. You may or may not have had sex before love develops. Sex can help bond a couple, but doesn't cause people to fall in love (lust maybe, but not love).

Hello Katy dear, love is beyond sex. It is not just an emotion, it is a feeling. It is just because of being one with whom we love. Attaining wisdom gives enormous strength to express love towards any one. Love is truth which is the basis of this entire creation.

The feeling you get from being around them them butterflies in your stomach you can't live without them but making love is also part of it to keep the bond between you both
