Why is President Obama pushing secretive Corporate Rights agreements like the TPP with mostly Republican backing?

Update:

Only members of the House and Senate are currently allowed to view the text of the deal, and even they are forbidden from discussing what it contains. As a new report from Politico published Monday details, "If you’re a member who wants to read the text, you’ve got to go to a room in the basement of the Capitol Visitor Center and be handed it one section at a time, watched over as you read, and forced to hand over any notes you make before leaving."

Update 2:

As for the public, a few unauthorized leaks of the text have previewed a deal that would "dramatically expand the power of corporations to use closed-door tribunals to challenge—and supersede—domestic laws, including environmental, labor, and public health, and other protections."

Update 3:

On Saturday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) responded with a letter essentially telling Obama to put up or shut up. If the deal is so great, Warren and Brown wrote, the administration should make the full negotiation texts public before Congress votes on a "fast track" bill that would strip the legislative branch of its authority to amend it.

Obama is Wall Street's boy. He does as he's told.

"Democrats are Wall Street’s darlings...Obama has “redistributed” more tax dollars to crony capitalists than to the poor...(Obama) hasn’t helped ordinary Americans."

I do not understand why our gov't wants this treaty. I travel to many places and see very few if any American products. Japan doesn't purchase many US products. they are allowed to dump their products on the Am people. China does the same, but at least you see a few Am cars. Who is this treaty going to benefit? Not US. I want to see transparency on this treaty. Guess what Wally world is the largest employer in the U S, but they do not want to pay. We're returning to the feudal system. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON'T VOTE!!!!!!!

In the first place this is about 40% of all trade in Asian.

China will make a deal with them and we will be out. You understand America is a global player with China. You can't compete if another country manipulates their currency forcing your products to cost much more than anyone on the market place.

  • Because he is a moderate Democrat.

And moderate Democrats tend to support trade agreements, because they can no longer count on the support of trade unions and have instead turned to bankers.
