Usually,a number of reasons. I'd assume most of the time, parents don't care or are to busy/lazy to supervise what their children are playing. The rating of Mature is usually ignored.

I suppose that, because children are desensitized to violent and sexual themes at earlier and earlier ages, people just don't care anymore.

Same reason why you see kids under 17 in R rated movies.

If their parents don't care, or think it's "OK" for their kid, then, there you go.

Some stores used to tell parents that the games they were buying are not intended for young kids, but most parents said they didn't care, or would get upset at the store trying to tell them how to raise their kids.

Remember, the ESRB is completely voluntary. If parents choose to ignore it, there's nothing to stop them.

Because most parents don't care about corrupting their kids. Some parents might not even know about the rating system. Who knows?

I suppose it's up to their parents or gardians, it's not illegal or anything. It's only illegal to sell the game to someone under the age. Most kids play with the game muted. But I get what you mean. As long as they aren't out there doing it! 😄

The game is rated mature (17+), but some parents buy games for their kids without looking for warnings like that, or simply not caring.

I think if you have good parents that teach you right from wrong there should be no problem playing them games at 8 or 20
