I need help with Ubuntu in virtual box?
I have to install it for a few assignments but I can't get it to work. I have the ISO so I have no problems getting into it but when it asked me to install it says it will wipe all files in my current OS. If I push something else it talks about partitions an d the default one fails on me.
I thought virtual box allowed me to run it separate of my OS not overwrite it.

what is the main operating system your computer runs its either mac or windows. Either way dowbload and install virtual box. Open it and click new name your machine and change type to linux than ubuntu. Click continue give it some ram (at least512mb). Than create a hardrive (doesnt matter what format) atleast 10gb to be on the safe side. than click create. You will now see a machine on the lwft side of your screen click onit than select settings. Go to the system tab than processor and enable pae(if avaliable) than click storage and click the little cd icon and browse for your iso. Than click ok. Ypu now will be at the virtualbox main screen again. There just select the ubuntu machine and click start and it should boot up. If it asks u about repalcing ur os just click ok its fine. It wont erase your operating system. Just the virtual hardrive u created

In Virtual Box you create a VM and allocate how much ram and storage. Start the VM and it will prompt media in which case you point it to the location of your ISO. After that simply install. Sounds like your booting directly from the CD and not from within VirtualBox.
