NRHH: When was the last time you felt depressed (and why)?
This doesn't have anything to do with the excruciating pain I'm feeling down in the ol' Hershey factory. I'm actually being kinda serious here.
The other day I found out that my English professor probably won't be teaching the Fall semester class that I signed up for under the pretense that she would be teaching the class. I think I mentioned briefly a couple of weeks ago that I'm pretty sure I'm in love with my English professor and my feelings have only grown stronger since 'cause she cute AF. Anyway, finding this out kind of bugged me because I had this whole grand relationship scheme planned out for us, but at the same time I'm wondering if it was ever really possible. I mean I'm all for "love whoever you want" and "age ain't nothing but a number" and so forth, but she's a professor. Can I, an emotionally distant young adult who listens to rap music actually have a successful relationship with an English professor (ten years my senior, more or less) who writes articles about Victorian literature? But probably the biggest thing is that, like Matthew Broderick in WarGames, I thought I had more time. An additional semester of ostensibly convincing her to like me is a comforting thought, and one that probably keeps me away from the very likely truth that she doesn't (and will never) like me. And that gets me depressed.
I'm not asking for advice, I'm just venting. Feel free to share your own experiences, whether they relate to mine or not. Thanks.

I was dumped at the beginning of the semester with little to no warning, no turbulence in the relationship, and after a three day period of silence. That sucked absolute cock. Before that...last year I was having existential crises and around the same time one of my classmates and friends killed herself so that made me get thinking pretty hard for a few weeks. You might have heard of an NYU student committing suicide actually. Her name was Rowen. Needless to say I was somewhat distraught and I was questioning a lot of societal conventions--even small things like the phrase "rest in peace" irritated me because being the evil atheist I am I don't really believe in the soul. Yep.

It's kinda ironic how I felt the same way last year. I had a teacher I kinda had a crush on and I learnt that the next year (which is this year) we wouldn't have her as a teacher. We did but for like a 1-hour-a-week class. And next year I am going to another school so this means no more classes with her. But I will see her cause the new school is right next to this one so it's all ok and I am not so obsessed with her now anyway. So yeahhhh it will probably be a weird summer this year but whatever I get crushes for everyone I will get over it lol... It's funny how I got a crush for a teacher I kinda hate all the others and they do too but she likes me (I think so at least that's what I tell myself lol). Just listen to music haha everything will be fine.

I haven't had any cause of depression but occasionally fall into a cycle of negative thinking, laziness and generally not maintaing a healthy mindset.
The summer is coming. It's an opportunity to experience what you want in life.
Hope to see you at the section raid tomorrow.

Wow, l.e.b. I didn't know you to be such a romantic.
Last time I was depressed was a little over two years ago. Similarly to your experience, it was over a girl. But this one I actually got to give a good ol' fashioned poke. I won't go into details (because they're pathetic), but I left the relationship feeling confused and lonely and it took me months to fully get over it.

Earlier today when watching Grey's Anatomy. Because *SPOILER* the main love interest, Derek, dies. And if love can't even triumph in a freaking television show, what does that say for real life.

Man, I get depressed quite a bit. When anyone sees me they would not see it as I don't show it. I'm usually just depressed on life man.
