Yes, I recommend you reading it. No, it's not frightening. It's just dark social commentary on our society. Here's the thing: I had to read this book freshman year of high school and I HATED it. It was boring and hard to understand. It's only after I failed the test on it, that I picked up the book again and truly tried to read it. I now really love it.
