Do most people have android because it's cheaper or better?
It could also be both but I would like to know which is the primary reason.

Will people actually read this? Who knows, i'm pretty late to the party anyways. haha.
So, i will list the pros and cons of both operating systems. I will try my best to be unbiased.
Android
Pros: Yes, it is way cheaper. Also, android is a lot more customizable than iPhones. That's one of the biggest factors to it, customization. Another thing is variety. There's only an iPhone for ios, but in android, you have the htc m9, sony xperia z3, lg g4, etc. So that's another thing, Maybe you like one android design over the other, then you have some choices you can make. For windows people, android runs off of linux, which is the same as what windows is built off of. So you can find similar features, such as moving files from folder to folder, downloading content straight off of your phone browser and installing the app (such as root apps, get them on the web, and install). So there is also a bit of convenience, vs ios, where you have to download off of a computer, hook your phone to the pc, and go through a series of steps on your pc to get the app onto your apple device.
Cons: Not as smooth or user friendly as ios. Maybe if google focused more on android than trying to overtake facebook with their stupid google plus crap... You get what i mean.
IOS
Pros: It is a lot more developed so it will be a lot more smoother and a very very tiny nanosecond faster. It is also very user friendly. You don't have to worry about random screen rbg settings, random folders such as com.android.(insert something here), etc. It's just a lot more simpler to use. Also, it is more secure than android since apple's ios is very locked down. So you don't have to worry about getting hacked (Basically, The chances of you iphone being successfully hacked are lower than an android's chance of getting successfully hacked.
Cons: No customizations, what-so-ever, besides background. Hard for me to use, i need my back and menu buttons (haha). Hella expensive.
Those are the reasons, if people even see this, but yeah. It's down to what you prefer. Do you like more control and more customizations? or do you like security and a user friendly ui?

RT is right. I have owned both and I can say that iPhone has some nice things but there wasn't anything that my android phone couldn't do that the iPhone did. People seem to think Apple is superior and you have to look at it for what it is. Its a phone that can do things a computer can to. I bought the iPhone 3G when it was excursively on AT&T and it so happened that i had AT&T at the time to. The phone was rather dated. While year older android phones had 3G speeds way before. Apple is and always will be behind and they do this intentionally and market their product as something "New" when, video cahtting was being done on Androids before iphone 1 was around. MMS (picture messages) were being done on mobile phones since 2001 and they do this to get people keep buying and consuming their products. Years later I bought an iPhone 5 and i could say the iPhone 5 was a good phone, but still, my android did everything plus more. The only thing that got me on iPhone was the size, their idea of a compact light weight smartphone was appealing to me, i could care less about apps, iTunes, facetime, so on. Well now that iPhone is near the same sizes as the massive androids, their entire brand is unappealing and useless to me.
Android gives you the ability to use your phone to what ever level user you are. Are you a code monkey that likes modding? You can do that with android. Do you like basic functions? Then you can have your andorid as simple as you want it to be. With iPhone you are limited alot. Granite, the phone is nice and its easily syncopated with mac computers and such, but you really are not getting the moneys worth, especially since there are "New" iphones ever 8 months.

My main reason is that Apple is a single source and as such is too controlling. When I got my first Android, you could only buy an iPhone through ATT and ATT only had specific plans. If you didn't like that, you had no other choice. The Android world never did that. There are multiple phone makers, multiple models, I can get service from just about anybody and there is an Android app for almost anything.
I am now on my third Android phone and my entire family has Android phones and tablets.
Android: All the functionality and none of the attitude.

I don't think that Android is better but I like it better. I have Windows phone that I bought for under $50 at a store close out but I don't like the windows phone as much as the Android or even the ios mainly because it has less free apps and reminds my of my disliked windows 8.1 laptop.
Depending on the brand and model an android phone can cost as much as an ios phone. When I purchased my first android phone you could only buy an accident plan and not insurance that covered loss or theft for an iPhone

I agree 100% with RT and the voted answer. When I was in the market for my first smartphone, I had an open mind and looked at both the iPhone 3 (current at the time) and the Motorola Droid X. Honestly the Droid X made the iPhone pale by comparison. Larger screen with Gorilla glass, aluminum body, HDMI output, GPS navigation (which was an extra cost function through ATT for the iPhone) and it uses a memory card for storage of pictures and music. Excellent build quality as well.
That Motorola phone was trouble-free through the 2 year contract and it served me very well. It did functions the iPhone 4 did not do. So I stayed with Android. What hurts the image of Android are the cheapie phones that use it.

Android is an operating software of mobile phones other than Apple and Microsoft phones. Apple and MS phones use their operating soft ware. Android is installed in your phone when you buy it and start using it so also other software. You start adding android applications from android play store as you go on using the android phone. No question of cheaper or costly. Some of the applications (app) are payable and most of the apps are free in both android and others.

Depends really, but yeah Android gives people a cheap way to own a smartphone. When you consider that a good Android smartphone can be picked up for less than $100, it makes sense for people to just go with Android.

Most people have Android because simply there are more of them available & in a greater price range. Apple usually caters just to the high end with their 6 & 6 Plus vs an Android OEM (e.g. Samsung) which has low, mid & high end phones.
Does that make it better? Not necessarily.
Same could be said of the PC market where there are many companies making computers that run Windows vs only Apple of course making their own computers, but in recent years the PC market is shrinking & the Mac market is growing. As far as US smartphone sales the same could be said where Apple is growing at the expense of Android.
