Can the cars driving corpses drive in the carpool lane?

    Carpool usually requires 3 or more living passengers. A hearse usually only seats 2 living people in the front seat, with the casket as cargo in the rear. It would not qualify for the carpool lane.

    No. The legislation for High-occupancy vehicle (car pool) lanes state that the qualifying occupants are living humans (after birth).

    The (after birth) clarification was added to the legislation after a number of pregnant women tried to claim that the unborn child they were carrying counted as an occupant.
