Is it normal for a cat to gain 2 lbs in a month?

When we adopted our rescue kitty she was 5 lbs 2 oz and after a month of living with us she is about 7 lbs and 6 oz. She's smallish and she looked lean but skinny before, now she looks a little chubby. I feed her 1 1/2 cans of Wellness Signature per day as the instructions on the back recommended. I wanted her to put on a some weight but 2 lbs seems like a lot in such a short time. Should I be concerned? Also is it possible getting her spayed may cause weight changes like this? She was spayed right before we brought her home.

She is more relaxed and probably less active at your house, add getting food that she doesn't have to compete for and she can gain weight.

Make sure you find sone toys she likes playing with and let her stalk and chase them twice a day for at least 25 minutes to help keep her in shape. You don't want a fat kitty either, you may consider cutting back by 1/4 a can and see If she still gains, then cut another 1/4 can And see how she does. It's sometimes a balancing act to get the calories just right for their able and activity level. It's always easier to up their food than it is to get them to loose weight.

No. Maybe a pound per month for the first 10 months of age. You will end up with a fat cat in no time. Average adult female weighs 7-10 lbs. She should be spayed too if not done yet.

You need to feed about 1/2 of a 6 oz can of food twice a day.

That's a lot of cat food. I feed my cat wellness too but I feed her less than that. I've been doing it for a year. She's about 12 pounds but she's a Norwegian forest cat so she's suppose to be big. But that sounds like a lot of food for a 7 lb. cat.

Getting spayed can cause weight gain, so can inactivity....you have to adjust her food intake to match her activity, if she is not very active she only needs 1 can of food per day....animals need proper exercise, perhaps a few toys and some one on one play time.....
