Is buying a yacht a good investment?

Buying a yacht is not a good investment. In fact, it is the penny pit. Owning a yacht has been seen as a luxury with its associated and ongoing expenses.

Investing in a yacht completely goes with the quote “A yacht is a hole in water into which you pour your money”.

Maintenance of the yacht requires more money even than purchasing cost to keep it in good condition. Every single detail of the yacht requires attention and money as well. Running cost and operating cost are much higher than buying cost that makes buying the yacht a terrible investment. The value of yacht decreases quickly from the time of purchase. Besides this, resale market is not also efficient and you end up with the loss.

There are so many reasons for buying a yacht but doing it for investment is not a wise idea.

You are better off buying real estate than a yacht. It really depends what type of yacht you would invest in, if its a rare one of a kind one then maybe it has the potential to be worth more in the future but you would have to take really good care of it and keep it in mint condition.

Investing in the yacht industry might be OK, but buying a yacht is not an investment.
