    You can see that you have -2y and 2y in both equations so that when you add them both together you'll get 0 allowing you to just have x so...

    (1) 3x + 2y = 5

    (2) x - 2y = 7

    (1) + (2) would give:

    4x = 12

    x = 3

    Now sub 3 into either (1) or (2), lets do (2):

    9 + 2y = 5

    2y = -4

    y = -2

    4x = 12

    x = 3

    2y = - 4

    y = - 2

    By addition method we have,

    x-2y=7

    3x+2y=5

    ________

    4x = 12

    i.e., x = 12/4 = 3

    we also have,

    x-2y=7

    i.e., 3-2y=7 (as x = 3)

    i.e., -2y = 7-3

    i.e., -2y = 4

    i.e., y = -2

    Hence, we have x=3 and y=-2.
