Is Star Wars episode 7 finished being filmed?
If it's due to come out later on this year are they still filming it or now are they in the marketing/merchandise sales and promotion. Why did they decide to release this movie at Christmas did it have somthing to do with kids will want star wars toys. Summer is the best time for movies everyone takes time off work or school.

Star Wars episode 7 finished filming in November of 2014. I'm not sure what the point of waiting over a year to release it was for, as it could already be out right now, but like Tyler said Christmas is a successful time to release movies.

Filming is now done on Star Wars Episode 7. Movie companies like to spend several months advertising the movie, getting people to want to see it (if they don't die of anticipation first).
As for being released during Christmas, it can be a successful release date for some movies. The two highest grossing films, Titanic and Avatar, were released during Christmas time. Apparently, they think there's a window of opportunity here.

It's still probably in post-production. But I think the real reason is because it doesn't want to compete with other summer movies. December this year doesn't have any good movies to look forward to other than Star Wars. Plus for everyone else in the world, December is a vacation time, just like June. So yeah, they know what they're doing.
