For someone as knowledgeable about computers, networks and a lot of other things, you should be able to do this material easily. You just have not got 1 key fact. I'll do a few and we'll see if the key fact shows up.

    (3a^2 - 4) + (5a^2 - 3a^3) Remove the brackets

    3a^2 - 4 + 5a^2 - 3a^3

    -3a^3 + 5a^2 + 3a^2 - 4 Only the two middle terms combine.

    -3a^3 + 8a^2 - 4 and you are done.

    7]

3x - 5x^3 - 2x^3 - 4x Notice the minus sign effects the 4th term. The first and last terms combine. The middle 2 terms combine.

3 - 4 = - 1 Think money. If you have 3 dollars and spend 4, you are left with -1. You are actually in the hole.

    -1x

-5x^3 - 3x^3 = - 8x^3 Again it is money. if you spend 5 dollars and then spend another three you are 8 in the hole.

    Answer -x - 8x^3

    8]

Try this yourself. You should get -1.

    8] second 8]

    4x^3 + 2x^4 + x^4 - 6x^3

    -2x^3 +2x^4 + x^4

    -2x^3 + (2 + 1)x^4

    -2x^3 + 3x^4

Notice you can't break it down any further. x^3 and x^4 don't add. They just sit there and make up your answer.

    9]

    and

    10]

    are yours.

    For 10]

the second set of brackets leave you with -4n^4 + 2n + 9n^5 Notice the sign change. That always happens when a minus is outside the brackets.

because there's no multiplication between the polynomials and you aren't solving for anything, all you need to do is make anything that is after a negative sign negative, remove the parentheses, combine like terms, and put everything in order.

    For example, the

    Number 8 answer would be: 6x+2-6x-3= -1

    #6.

Add like terms with exponents that are to the same power.

    For example: 3a^2 + 5a^2 = 8a^2

There are no other like terms for -3a^3 and -4 so you don't add or subtract anything.

    Answer: 8a^2 - 3a^3 - 4
