  • Lubuntu 14.04 help?

I have a Compaq Evo with Pentium 4, 781MB RAM, 160GB HDD with lubuntu 13.01 installed. It runs very well on there with no lag or wait time at all. Boot time is 23 seconds. Big difference from when it was Windows 2000 and boot time was 3:06 and it had a 9 second delay. But anyway Ubuntu 14.0 came out yesterday and lubuntu 14.04 came out today. I upgraded my ubuntu laptop to 14.04 no problem. (Dell inspiron 1525). This compaq while it was updating the update manager crashed right in the middle of it. The computer will no longer allow things to be installed, update, or uninstalled. It says ubuntu 13.01 has run into error when you try to do something with it. I tried to do the update over but the reminder would not come up. I did it through terminal and it would run into error. I work with computers with my life and I do know that fixing this would be as simple as uninstalling lubuntu 13.01 and reinstalling lubuntu 14.04. Is there any system restore type thing like windows? I want to try to avoid a system re-install because that would take up alot of time. I only have 3 linux computers and Im slowly getting use to linux. The rest of my 21 computers run windows and the other two run DOS.

  • Gokart driving Delaware?

I have a 1996 Briggs and Stratton street gokart. (5 hp) I fixed it up by putting half the engine together, putting a seat on it, new tires and rims, new brakes, new clutch, new gear ring, new bumpers and I added headlights and tailights. I drive it all the time. It goes 64mph on a good day but usually goes 53mph on a normal day. But anyway I drive it around my neighborhood and on back roads. I dont go to fast with people present but I go fast when there isnt. I drive on the right side of the road, pull over to let cars pass me, and keep a distance of 4 feet with people walking on the road. Recently I have seen people talking on the phone watching me. I purposely stall and pull over to hear what they are saying. Most of the time they are talking on the phone reporting me... If I get caught what would happen?

    Simm RAM Question?????????????????????

I fix/build computers. Mainly desktops but I have fixed some laptops. It all started 5 years ago when I was in 5th grade. I got my own desktop but I had to build it. Someone tought me how so I did. My grandfather had 128K Simm RAM that he gave me. It didnt fit but 128k seemed like a lot to me at the time. I didnt know I had 1GB of RAM in that desktop which was obviously alot more. As time went on I got more computers. But here I am today living with 26 computers. Out off all the parts/broken computers people have givin me I never got this RAM put to use. None of my computers take it from what I know. I have a gateway essential and an aptivia IBM and thats the oldest I have gone in fixing. (1997) I did receive an old TRS-80 and a Cummuter portable brick that runs dos 2 and has a mono color screen. I am tempted to go into those computers and find out for my self. I never screwed up a computer in all 5 years but this one is worth a couple hundred and I dont want to risk it. But should I go in for a look? Its not like a tower but take a look in the picture below. The computer is made by visual. The difference in the one in the pic and mine is the floppy drive. The one in the link below is an exact match but mine has no screen.

  • Major Windows Problems?

OK! So I have big problem. I have an HP Pavilion a1210n originally with windows xp. I upgraded it to 2.5gb RAM and well, use to be a 500GB HDD. It worked for about 3 or 4 weeks then I ran into problems. I turned it on one day and it told me "BOOT DISK ERROR. ENTER RECOVERY DATA". I assumed the HDD was corrupt and because that was what HP told me with "SMART" error. So I used my PATA/SATA bridge and the hdd came up fine! I I was able to recover everything! I tried a 320gb sata hdd and it told me the same thing. (the 500GB HDD was also Sata) I pluged in a 320GB PATA HDD and it told me "enter Operating System installation media to continue." I tried to reinstall windows 7 which was on the 500GB HDD and it would not show up the drive. I got a SATA to PATA adapter and put it on the original 500GB HDD and it showed the same error message. I changed the jumper and the solder points were touching the outer metal part of the hdd and the card shorted and the capacitors on the card blew up. Bad design I guess. So that was the end of that. The HDD still works. I had a Western Digital 1TB Sata HDD that I thought was bad because the mybook enclosure it was in would not work. I ripped the enclosure off and plugged in the hdd and it showed up. Meanwhile it takes 5 min to boot bios. I also do have a bunch of random windows documents on there and Im not sure if that could be the problem. I took it out and plugged it into my bridge and it did not work. I am trying to install windows 7 on it right now but it is taking forever.

So the above paragraph I want to know what to do next. Please Tell me.

Now onto my second question. Windows Vista can be installed on a PATA hard drive. I have a fully functioning PATA HDD and it regonizes just fine no problems with it. I have a Windows Vista Home Basic Product Key. Does anyone know of a place where I can download an iso? Installing Windows Vista is also an option I dont mind.

Overall I just want the computer to run some form of windows newer then windows xp. I have 2 windows 7 home product keys and one windows vista home basic product key. 10 Points to the one who helps the most.

  • Help with HDD boot problems?

I have an HP A sieries desktop. Every time I boot it it says "HARD DRIVE FAILURE! PUT IN BOOT DISK AND SELECT ENTER" message. Its the most annoying thing ever. When ever I unplug it from the wall press the power button then plug it back in it is ok and boots. If I restart it does the same thing. My other HDD doesn't regonize in bios doing the same thing. HDDlife says both are healthy at 60%. SMART Boot loader that came with bios says it is at 60%. Why does it do this? It regonizes IDE devices just fine. If someone has a thing that boots from CD or DVD that boots then can boot the HDD or any other suggestions? Would a SATA to IDE adapter work with windows 7 and just not use the sata ports? I have tested the drives in other computers, replaced sata cords and everything. The HDD light does turn on when it boots and the both hdd's spin apon turn on. • Windows 7 boot issue?

I have an HP A sieries desktop from 2007. It came with windows xp. I got it from a previous owner who said it was too slow so they gave it to me because they wanted a new laptop. I took it completly apart and rebuilt it. It has 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD AMD Vision processor instead of AMD Athlon x64. I put another 320HDD in there. It is not a dual hdd install it is only on the 500GB HDD. These hard drives are new. When I rebuilt it I switched everything over to SATA. Now when it came time for installing the operating system I did and I put windows 7 home 32 bit and used a product key from a broken unfixable dell laptop. I have been using it upstairs because I have been hunting for a HP A sieries for a long time and I didnt want to sell this one. I have been using it for 3 weeks mainly for internet and using it to remote control other computers. A week ago this computer started giving me the "NO BOOT DEVICE DETECTED. INSERT MEDIA AND PRESS ENTER. " message. I replaced the bios battery, tested the hdd on other computers. Both are fine. When I unplug the power supply and press the power button it empties all the capacitors and leftover electricity. I plug it back in and it boots just fine. Explain this to me please? How do I fix this? In all 5 years I have been repairing computers I have never had this problem. One thing I have left to try is the 3gb/s to 1.5gb/s jumper thing but I dont think it will help. The HDD does not show up in bios unless I do the thing with the power supply.
