What do you think was the most brutal or shocking scene in Game of Thrones?

I have not read the books. I'ts on my summer to do list.

Ned Stark's beheading because i didn't see it coming.

The Red Wedding because I didn't see it coming.

Shireen Baratheon being burned alive because I didn't think Stannis would go through with it.

The slaughter of the Wildlings by the wights and the White Walker.

For people who hadn't read the books, what happened to Ned was the most shocking moment. My mother (whom I was watching it with, my daughters are too young and my wife hates it) gasped and kept looking at me saying "he's not really, dead, right?" and stuff like that. She was SO sure he was the main character that she couldn't believe they killed him off. After that, it had to be the Red Wedding. In books and the show.

For me these are:

- Burning alive a little girl(daughter)

- Throwing little kid out of tower when he witnessed an in/cest scene.
