Is it possible to make a comfortable living on the internet? No spammers please?

Update:

I'm looking to work from home and don't mind working long hours. I just want to know if there are legitimate companies out there. I tried the surveys that promised money and all I got were stupid points. I'm tired of the lies and scams. Please help.

If you are tired of the lies and scams you should try this website - http://www.flexjobs.com/

This is not a free service but they provide verified listing for telecommuting jobs of all types.

You could list yourself at places like eLance - https://www.elance.com/ or Upwork, formerly known as oDesk - https://www.upwork.com/

I moved your question to the category where you will likely receive more responses.

I think Roderick provided useful information. I attended one webinar for a company that only had five employees in its home office but had a few hundred telecommuting workers. They were very selective in hiring practices and said that of all the resumes they received only 1 percent had the skills they were looking for. They hired one in every 10 people they interviewed. I attended another webinar for a company that was hiring for tech support positions. If you qualified you were hired as a full-time worker with benefits. The pay scale started at $9.00 dollars an hour. Some people thought that was too low but in my area this type of job normally goes for $12.00 dollars an hour but you had to report to their call center, which means you would need to factor in work clothes, transportation, and lunch.

You can make a living of you are an experienced programmer. Look on elance, com or guru.com

Otherwise you make some extra money but won't make a living. A friend is a web designer with 18'years experience and she can pick up extra little jobs between her contracts but it's not a lot of money..most people, only pay $500-750 for a website and she's lucky to pick up 2 jobs a month. The rates are low because so many people will work for cheap

    You could work as

    A programmer

    A graphic designer

You could do those paid surveys (wouldn't supply a proper income, but it's a start)

You can also work as an examiner, so marking exams etc. from home, the exams would get scanned and sent to you for you to mark over the computer.

I'd say possible, but improbable. One needs to have a product or service that another person would be willing to pay for if offered face-to-face. That would include eBay sellers, consultants, even webcam girls. I'm not counting companies like Facebook and Twitter, because those actually have physical buildings, server farms, and (some) employees sitting at desks.

Thanks but I'm actually looking for people that are positive and have valid information. Not people that just give their opinion. No offense intended.
