can airline pilots carry weapons? it would seem safe for them too?
Since all that terrorist stuff is going around you gotta think that they have training in some way so they can provide protection for themselves

I've been retired for nearly 20 years now. Our pilots could carry guns if they demonstrate competence with fire arms. Within a few months one shot a hole in the cockpit, and got a great deal of publicity. Not long thereafter another one put a hole above the side window. They kept that quiet. These people are barely competent to operate an aircraft that's mostly automated. Giving them a weapon of this magnitude is not logical. An armed pilot is a hazard. Maybe if we paid the TSA guys more than minimum wage, we could get quality people, and stop the terrorists in the terminal instead of having to do it in the air?

There WAS an FAA program a few years back that allowed pilots to be trained and certified to carry a firearm while on duty. I haven't kept up with this, but it seems to me that if pilots are locked away in their safe little cockpit, then they have no need to have a gun. The only person they would be able to shoot would be the other pilot, and that's a BAD thing.

Some airline pilots in USA have volunteered to be trained and carry a gun -
Protection for themselves, and shoot their co-pilot or a flight attendant by accident...?
Reminds me of that cowboy (excuse me, a captain) who nearly shot a bullet in his foot -
Bullet went through the floor -
So... he was "trained" to be an idiot...?
Like all the idiots with pistols, why "chamber" a bullet in the barrel...?
Stupidity of guns "enthusiasts" and other NRA idiots -
An airline cockpit is not the "OK Corral" and I am not John Wayne -
If I was still a pilot (in USA) I would refuse to fly with an armed pilot in my crew -
Replace me, or replace the other crewmember -
There is no excuse to have any weapons in a cockpit -
There are armed air marshals for the job of safety in an airline cabin -
Source(s): Retired airline pilot - I have a pistol AT HOME but never would have had the idea to take it on a flight - - How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.

"Since all this terrorist stuff is going around"? Really? When was the last time a terrorist successfully hijacked an aircraft? Carrying loaded weapons inside a pressurized aircraft does NOT make it safer.

No airline pilots are NOT allowed to carry weapons. And honestly it would not be safe.

Fire a gun inside a plane, blow a hole in the side. You really think that improves safety?

Well they DON'T cause people smarter than you who are ACTUAL experts on aviation and experts on terrorism have decided that it's too dangerous
