Painting a metal with spray paint?
I have a metal brass knuckles in my antique weapon collection, knuckles are black but they are all scratched up and they beagun to rust so I need zo paint them gold but I want to prtoect the metal from color declining color... Please help, what to do with metal so I doesnt age, at least visually.. Thanks

Well, paint them and you just destroyed the value of the brass knuckles, not to mention they will look really tacky. The scratching and even the discoloration and rust add to its panache. If you really must polish them up, scrub well with SOS or Brillo soap pads. Do not spray with lacquer as that will only flake off, leaving oxidized spots that will be hard to remove without destroying all the lacquer. After you've polished them up, just clean occasionally with Cape Cod silver polish cloths.

You should polish them with metal polish until they gleam. Wipe them with methylated spirits then spray with a clear aerosol lacquer for metal. Not varnish as it contains colour. Two coats of lacquer will keep them shining for years.
