In US Army Basic Training (Reception) do they still give you a shot of penicillin?
I have heard that they have discontinued it from some people, but I am not sure.

Yes, it is an antibiotic. It is NOT preventative medicine. It doesn't do any good to take penicillin for no reason other than letting bacteria develop a resistance to it.
I don't think penicillin has EVER been given at Basic Training, certainly not in the last 50 years.

Penicillin is an antibiotic, not a vaccine. It will only work if you already have a bacterial infection. And it is only one of many antibiotics that are available. Some work on certain bacteria while others work on different bacteria. So it would be pointless to give you penicillin or any other antibiotic without knowing what type of bacteria you may have.

You receive what's known as the "peanut butter shot" which is basically penicillin. They ask you if you're allergic to penicillin before you receive it.

They do not and never have given penicillin except for specific infections.

You will get a complete battery of vaccinations during your first week. However, penicillin is not a vaccine, so you wouldn't be getting one of those.
