WHY DO 'WE' SPEND SO MUCH $$$$$$$$$ ON PRIMARIES>>NOT EVEN PART OF THE CONSTITUTION?

The government doesn't spend money on primaries for one thing. For another thing, it's a states' rights thing. Every state is different. In New Mexico, for example, if you don't vote in the primary, your voter registration gets temporarily cancelled and you can't vote in the general. (A friend of mine tried to fight this unsuccessfully.) For another thing, primaries aren't funded federally; they're funded through campaign contributions.
We have to have some system by which the candidates are picked, other than by committee.

As another mentioned primaries are how the parties pick their candidates, and they are in-state elections not national elections. The Constitution does not dictate to the states how to pick their delegates to the electoral college or any other election. The 14th amendment does restrict states from denying the right to vote except for specific reasons and based on that the Congress passed the voting rights act but elections are not addressed beyond that. Primaries are held in many states for all partisian elections to pick candidate for local city council or mayor all the way to President.
In some states the party covers the cost of their own primary.

'We' don't. It is part of the process by which the parties choose their candidates. You are under no obligation to partake in any way.

Remember when so many (GOP/Cons) gave Obama so much crap when he chastised the Supreme Court decision Citizens United during his State of the Union address?
I guess Obama was right...

‘WE’ don’t, donors do. We have primaries most terms because we don’t want to simply anoint someone to a nomination because of things like gender, race, who their husband is, or “making history”.
