Is it self defense in this case?

Is it self defense if you're a female and a man tries to rape you so you stab him with scissors so you can run away? Or is that assault because he technically didn't hurt you yet?

    That would be put in as self defence as the man is obviously about to put harm onto the female the girl is stopping that by 'stabbing' him.

    As described, that would be self defense. The issue is proving that he attempted to rape you before you stabbed him.

    Women have a little more leeway in this regard. I know in my state, women can carry a concealed pistol and nobody says much about it. But a man can get in trouble for it.
