When am I supposed to know if I'm eligible for the Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant?

I received this grant last school year, 2014-2015; however, this year the grant has not shown up in my financial aid. Does this mean that I will not receive the grant for this year, 2015-2016? Or does the grant take longer to process than the rest of my financial aid?

SEOG grants are a campus based source of federal aid. This means that the school receives a set amount of money each year from the federal government, and they decide how to distribute it. Usually it is awarded to students with the lowest EFC's but schools often also reserve it for particular groups of students, such as those in certain programs that are more expensive that others. Or, they may give it to out of state students because their tuition is higher and they don't qualify for state aid. At some schools, they use it primarily for freshmen whose loan limits are lower than those for upper classmen. Generally speaking the SEOG would be offered at the same time as your other federal aid, so if it wasn't part of your package, you probably will not receive it this year. If in doubt, contact the financial aid office at your school and ask.
