How can I prevent yellowjacket stings on my legs?

I have ground nesting yellowjackets and I have been stung for the third time while mowing the lawn. I am going to set out traps and I also spray the holes I can find with foaming yellowjacket killer. The little bastards always sting me in the same spot. Right above the area where my 8" leather workboots stop. Baffles me how they know to sting above the leather. I thought of trying to wrap my legs with some kind of material that they can't sting through. Jeans are just too hot in the 90 degree weather so I always wear shorts. Any ideas?

I observe the world around me and try to spot them before they spot me. Before running over them slow down and observe if any are swarming around the ground first. Then in late evening spray the hole. As to your stings, they aren't smart, they are stinging the boots but the leather protects you. I have some I call "bullet bees" small wasps that come at you like a machine gun and follow you. This happens when I'm weeding and the weeds cover their activity. Damn they hurt.
