Why do people want to call everything "anxiety"?

I remember a time where being worried or shy wasn't called "anxiety" it was called being worried or shy. Why do people want to be so dramatic?

Particularly in reference to a person who said her "anxiety gets the best of her before roller coasters". It's not anxiety, its nervousness.

Labelling has become very important, because critical-thinking has become rare.

Basically every feeling needs to get 'medicized' to give it a place, people can't just deal with being worried, fidgety, or stressed, they need to have a disorder(at least they think they do).

The problem is in imprinting though, especially schools have been responsible for 'medicizing' things by trying to push ADHD-diagnosis on 4 year olds(which is medically impossible, yet it has happened, and is still happening in some Countries) and giving them meds(messing up their natural brain-chemistry for life).

Also doctors have been 'bought, and paid' by Pharmaceuticals the last decade, instead of therapy, they now push pills, instead of fixing a problem, they medicate it almost exclusively. Again giving off the message that a little stress, can be fixed with a PILL, and ignorant-logic is.

If the Doctor gives me pills, it must be a medical-problem, or a disorder.

Source(s): It's why Elvis believed he wasn't an addict, his pills were prescribed by doctors, that was his justification. Now back then, Elvis was a lone, problem-case, these days, that's a majority idea, the doctor recommends pills, so it must be a medical disorder.

It's odd- we have progressed into a state where we are quick to slap labels on things, such as anxiety and depression, etc.

I think it's because people nowadays expect to be able to be given medication and treatment to deal with the small things they can't handle without pushing themselves.

It's sad, but eventually I do believe things will change.

Because it can be faked without evidence (meaning that no one can question it), and there's some trippy, feel-good meds that can be legally prescribed.
