  • Fighting gerbils?

I have two girls from different litters but approximately the same age. Only a few weeks difference at most. They've been together for 3 almost 4 months now and there have been no problems. They slept together in a little ball, even ran on the wheel together.

Today, the red one started chasing the smaller black one, and the black one squeaked when cornered. They play chase occasionally but not this rough or fast. It took me about 10 minutes of rough chasing to figure out I needed to separate them. I pulled the red one out for 20 minutes or so in a tote-size carrier, trying to give some cool down time. Reintroduced them and they went right back at it. They live in a sizable terrarium with plenty of food and water and shavings, so no resources were low.

I tried two or three more times to give a "time out" but finally just decided to separate them for the night. I put the troublemaker in her own emptied out 5gal aquarium (used to have a fish) for now. I was wondering what the odds are that I can put them back together in a day or so. This is a totally new thing, so I'm hoping it's a phase. Any suggestions or tips would be great.

  • Starting jobs for Mechanical Engineers?

I'm a senior in high school and have been recently accepted into Clemson University's Engineering program for Fall of 2016. I've also applied and am waiting for Georgia Tech's and Virginia Tech's responses. Georgia is my first pick, but they're a bit of a reach. I'm confident with my chances at VA as well.

Anyways, I'm interested in aerospace and aeronautical engineering. I know there are Aerospace bachelor's programs, but I was told (and I agree) that a bachelor's in Mechanical would be better, since it takes a Masters to get an actual job in that field anyways. Mechanical will also give me that background to make me different.

... So here's what I'm wondering. What kind of jobs do grads with a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering get? I'm probably not going to go directly into a Masters program, given the amount of debt I'm going to be getting into. I'm just wondering what kind of jobs I'll be looking at fresh out of college.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Should I see a doctor about breast lump?

This lump has been here for around 2 or 3 months, but was not as noticeable in the beginning. My period doesn't affect it, it doesn't get better or worse. I'm on birth control as well, a daily pill, not a shot or IUD.

I noticed the lump first because my nipple was asymmetrical and no longer round. It kind of bulged near the bottom. It feels like a knot, kind of like a marble. It didn't hurt at first, but now it's pretty tender. I can feel it even when I'm not touching it. Just by wearing a sports bra, I can feel it pressed against me. My breasts are pretty not large, around a B-C depending on the brand. It moves a bit when I touch it, but not much. It's not squishy by any means. And it's definitely not like this in the other breast. The lump is centralized around the nipple,

It feels larger, for sure. It's more sensitive and my breast still looks visibly asymmetrical. I know I probably should go to the doctor anyway, but I'm wondering if I can get away with not going?

So really, my question is, "Is this as serious as I think it is?"

  • Long term Adderall use?

I've got a prescription, and it really does help. I have also got a handle on the decreased appetite side effect, after I dropped about 20-25 lbs in 4 months. (Now I'm holding steady around 110 which is a healthy size for 5'2" 18 year old girls.)

While on Adderall, my heart rate usually hangs around the mid to upper 90s. I'm far from obese and I used to run 10-15 miles a week (before the rapid weight loss). However, my blood pressure has always been rock bottom, usually coming in at less than 100/80 so I wasn't too worried... But I know that long term strain on the heart can cause some very bad things.

What exactly are "warning signs" that my heart is overworking itself, or is this okay in combination with low BP? Tachycardia starts at 100, but it's not THAT often that my heart rate hangs out past 100. Could this potentially cause problems with my heart later?

  • Would I qualify for a clinical trial?

When I was 13, I got a raging corneal pseudomonas ulcer on my right eye from putting in a contact when my eye was a bit irritated (turned out to be scratched). Once my doctor realized what it was, I was rushed to Emory Hospital in Atlanta. I was minutes away from an emergency transplant, but had eaten that day, so the doctors put me on drops every 15 minutes around the clock to give my eye a fighting chance. This was initially just to save my eye.

I responded well to the drops, they held off on the transplant, and my eye scarred up nicely. The scar is smack dab in my field of vision, but over the past 5 years, it's improved greatly. I went from barely seeing movement in front of my face to being just at the line for legal blindness.

I've seen multiple corneal specialists and surgeons about possible transplants just to get back a "normal" perception, but every procedure mentioned comes with a high chance that the scarring from the surgery will alter my field of vision anyway. So they're a no-go.

LONG STORY SHORT... I recently turned 18, and my dad is big into the whole stem cell research thing. There have been major successes with corneal regeneration in clinical trials, but is my case bad enough to be considered for one? Are these doctors looking for more of a challenge? Do you know of any trials personally? I've found multiple ones online, but human recommendations are always preferred.

  • Good earrings for previously stretched ears?

I had my ears stretched to 1/2 inch for about a year. I took them out around 8 months ago to heal up. (I was sick of dealing with them. They were annoying.) My ears have healed down to about a 12g, which is just enough to where they look pretty normal, yet can't hold a normal stud without drooping down and being weird. Perfect, right?

Anyways, I'm tired of not being able to wear cute earrings in my first hole. I don't have the intention of re-stretching, so all the earrings I've seen thus far are designed to "show off" how large the hole is. I'm looking for something that looks like a normal earrings, just a bit thicker.

If anyone has any suggestions, ideas, or anything really, I'd appreciate it.

*** My ears are as good as they're going to get. They've been stuck at a 12g for months now, and I've used all sorts of oils. I'm NOT looking for tips on how to shrink them further. It's pretty awesome that they shrunk down this much.

  • Do people from cities, the north, and west listen to country music?

It's not my favorite genre, but I'm from SC so it's everywhere here. I know more country songs than I care to, but that's beside the point.

Are there people living in cities like NYC or LA that like country music? Even if they've never been to the south or have lived in rural regions? I'm just wondering if that's a thing.

  • Why should the government be involved in a woman's sex life?

I never even imagined that an employer is supposed to cover birth control for the employees. Sex is a personal choice, and birth control is relatively inexpensive and is usually made super inexpensive or free by insurance, so why does the employer have to guarantee to cover that for women?

Plus, condoms are usually under $5 dollars if a woman can't be on the pill or get an IUD. I do agree that birth control should be readily available to women, but I do think it is a personal thing. When an employer doesn't cover contraception, why are they seen as denying women their rights? Employers don't cover condoms and other male forms of birth control either, so how are anyone's rights being taken away?

    Help me to understand.

  • Shouldn't democrats be ashamed of Hillary Clinton?

I'm an independent voter, meaning if I like what you're saying, I don't care about your party.

Hillary has a reputation for lying. Here's a list of her "achievements":

    - Got a convicted child rapist's prison sentence reduced as a defense attorney (just an example of character)

    - Repeatedly lied to the American people about what happened in Benghazi

    - Took photos with confederate flags in the 90's, yet now claims they're ugly racist symbols

    - Broke the law by communicating classified information to political leaders using a private email account

    - Wiped said email account private server and has only released emails she deems as "relevant"

    - Makes 25 million dollars a year off of "speech fees" which goes to nothing more than personal gain

    - State department "lost" around 6 billion dollars under Clinton's position as Secretary of State

Why aren't democrats embarrassed? Shouldn't they want someone trustworthy and honest fronting their party? Why is this thief and criminal fronting you guys?

  • Does a 17 year old girl have better economic sense?

So I was thinking.. What's the point of taxing a nation if a good portion gets thousands back in returns? Why is our tax code so long? Why is it so hard to understand? Why are we in constant debt?

Then, as I did more research, I came up with this:

    - Flat tax percentage, one-size-fits-all, no returns or exemptions (if everyone paid, the percentage would be relatively low)

    - Flat tax for companies as well, no special treatment

    - Do away with unnecessary codes for companies (it takes an average of 7 years for an industry to get cleared for production in the US. Maybe that's why al America's companies have moved out...)

    - Legalize weed and put a pretty tax on it as well (I'm not a user myself, but I've taken a look at the serious revenue that Colorado has generated from marijuana)

    - Better regulation of welfare programs (spontaneous drug tests, make sure they're actively applying for jobs, etc.)

    - Add a flat percentage onto taxes and do away with Obamacare's monthly crap (so basically Canada's system)

But anything like this will never be done because this is America and everything the government touches becomes 10x more complicated. Having a simple tax code would be absurd.

Could this work? It's all around fair and if all companies were treated equally, then big business wouldn't choke out small like it's doing right now.

  • Accounting, Marketing, or Real Estate?

I'm going to be going to university in fall of 2016. My unweighted GPA is a 3.88, while my weighted is like a 4.2 or so. I'm in all honors classes, made an 1820 on my SAT and 26 on my ACT, which is well enough to get into the college I want to go to.

I've already knocked out engineering and pretty much all sciences. I don't particularly have an interest in those things anyway, so I'm not too sad.

I really like thing that make sense, which leads me to the broad field of business. I love creative, or normal, problem solving and dealing with real numbers. I was interested in architecture for a time, but they have scary high unemployment rates. I'm also interested in real estate. I really love looking at homes and properties, and I think I could have a knack for selling them. (My mother thinks so. She says I'm very persuasive and good at rewording things to sound nice.) But, real estate is super dicey as well.

So that leads me to marketing, where I'll be looking at how to sell things to people, which is cool too.

Every business needs accountants though, and my love for number sense draws me to it as well. I'm just afraid that accounting will be super meaningless and I'll live a shell of a life. (Deep, right?) But, then again, what I do with my salary to give back to people and make a change could be what matters. Accountants make decent salaries all around, so I'd have some flexibility with donating or volunteering, which is a huge plus.

    Thoughts? Other suggestions?

  • What score should I apply to college with?

First try on BOTH tests, I got a 26 on my ACT and a 1820 on my SAT. Which score is better? I'm not sure how they compare.

I want to send the best score to each college, but I don't want to spend $30 on every potential school by sending both scores over.

Which score do you recommend if I was only going to send one? I plan on attending a 4 yr college. I don't want to go to a private university though, simply because I don't want to be in debt for eternity.

  • How do I figure my whole SAT score?

My individual scores were 650 in reading, 610 in math, and 560 in writing. It didn't give me a total score, and I was wondering if it was more complicated by simply adding them up.

If it's just adding, is 1820 a good score or not?

  • Why do people want to call everything "anxiety"?

I remember a time where being worried or shy wasn't called "anxiety" it was called being worried or shy. Why do people want to be so dramatic?

Particularly in reference to a person who said her "anxiety gets the best of her before roller coasters". It's not anxiety, its nervousness.

  • What happened to the American Dream?

America is supposed to be the land of opportunities and making your own way, but why do so many people want things handed to them?

Do Americans now feel lazy and entitled? People used to immigrate here because employees could move up the corporate ladder and become the employer. Hard work pays off. Why don't people want to work hard for nice things instead of have the government spoon feed you everything you need?

  • Why do mass shootings make people want gun control?

Shouldn't people want more citizens to arm themselves so these incidents are stopped? If one person would have had a concealed weapon during any sort of mass shooting, couldn't that one person have a chance of saving many lives?

Criminals will always get their hands on guns, so why do people want to take guns out of the civilian's hands? The only person that could stop a shooting when it's happening is a law abiding citizen with a gun. Why do democrats want to take that away?

  • Why do people want US college to be free?

The expenses will only be added onto the tax dollar, and if the government funds it, you betcha they'll be some serious corner cutting. Also, they'll get to teach the curriculum they see fit for each degree.

From my understanding of free German university, they have a lot less sport clubs, and the dorms aren't spacious or comfortable. They have the bare-bones type living.

I think that keeping US university out of the hands of the government creates a better environment. When they're funded privately, they can go the whole 9 yards and really make the college awesome. There are also millions of dollars in scholarship money that never gets collected or even applied for, so that could help students in financial need.

Also, making colleges a federal thing interferes with the Constitution and what is considered "just and proper" for a federal government to control. State's and people's rights get caught up in that.

  • What subject should I teach?

My plans thus far are to go to College of Charleston and major in Secondary Education AND something else. What they recommend is a double major for all aspiring high school teachers, but I'm torn on what I want to do.

I want to have this outlined so when I sign up for classes, I know what I want and I don't waste money/fall behind on my degree.

I really like science, except for Chemistry. If I can't really see it or observe it, then it doesn't click with me. I can do that stuff, but it's just not inspiring or interesting. Chemistry is out. I do like biology too, but from what I've read, there's a surplus of biology teachers out there. It's the most popular kind of science major. Physics makes sense to me. I can observe all that stuff and the numbers can be worked out too.

What I really have a passion for is Spanish. Although I don't speak it anywhere close to fluently, I know enough to where I wouldn't die if nobody spoke English. I really enjoy learning it though. I eat that stuff up. Bilingual educators are in serious demand is what I also read.

History would be perfect for me as well, but there's a total flood of history teachers. English is out, there's nothing I hate more than English classes, poetry and assigned literature.

    Thoughts or ideas?

  • Why don't we drug test for welfare or any government programs?

Most jobs require a drug test to be hired. Why shouldn't the same be true for money GIVEN by the government?

Isn't welfare supposed to help people who need to get on their feet? Why do we not get all the information to decide whether they need/deserve this help? Are we supposed to hand this money to anyone who says 'pretty please'?

If they have money for drugs, why do they need the government's money? Wouldn't that go to drugs as well?

I'm up for some kind of rehab course for those using hard drugs who need help, but if they're not willing to get clean, then why do they deserve to get government money? Shouldn't our government look out for these abusers of the system?

  • Do you think the media distracts common America from bigger issues on purpose?

A lot of huge developments are happening in the US right now, like the Patriot Act situation and our constant Middle Eastern involvement. Why aren't most Americans concerned with that?

The American public is now more concerned with internet trends, celebrities, and scandals than it is with real world issues. Constant accusations of racism and police brutality fill nightly news, while ignoring other huge issues as well. It's like the US government wants news stations and magazines to distract us while they do what they want with little fight from the people. I feel these things make the public oblivious to real issues.

Police brutality is always going to be a thing, but nobody cares about our severely broken and corrupt government?

(Lots of "police brutality" could have been avoided with 10 minutes of respect and cooperation, in my opinion, but that's another topic.)
