What is wrong with my Kindle Fire?

My Kindle Fire will not let me open my books. I can get on my apps, internet, and music just fine but when I try to open a book, it immediately closes. A few of my books are showing in the carousel, but the rest just show a blue square with a white outline and it won't let me remove them from the device or the carousel. When I go to books, the same picture is there and I can't do anything with them. What is wrong with my Kindle Fire and what can I do to fix it?

Update:

EDIT: I tried turning off my Kindle Fire completely, waiting a few seconds, and turning it back on several times, but I still can't get into my books.

Update 2:

I have rebooted my Kindle Fire several times and it still won't work.

Remember, your Kindle is basically a tablet computer. Computers need to be rebooted every now and then when they start acting wonky.

Turn on your Kindle. Push and hold the Power button for 20 full seconds. It should turn off. Wait a few seconds then turn on as normal. This time your Kindle will take about 45 seconds to start up and hopefully the problem will be resolved.

Reboot it and see if that fixes it.
