I think Deism is a good default position. It doesn't have to be the default position if you are convinced that there aren't any god's. If that's the case your default position will be atheism.

Deism is a good place to go if you aren't sure about religion or atheism. I used to be a theist, then I converted to atheism, but have gradually moved back to deism.

I chose deism because I have had some experiences in my life that have convinced me that there is a god. However, I don't believe Christianity has that God, nor does Muslimism nor Judaism. I don't believe in re-incarnation so I cannot chose Hinduism. Buddhists spend too much time meditating, so I won't chose them.

I chose deism, not so much as a religion, but more just as a belief. I believe that there is probably a God, but that he/she doesn't get involved in human affairs, but on rare occasions will show up and help people.

Spiritual deism or mechanistic deism? If it's non-spiritual (eg: no afterlife, non-caring, non-personal deity), then that deist is as irreligious as I am, and their deism is just one minor lapse in their skepticism. For "why anything?" they say "magic...?" instead of "I don't know".

If there is some spiritual component, like that we're special to that deity or there's an afterlife, then that deism is indulging in wishful thinking.

Pandeism reconciles elements of Pantheism with Deism, creating an holistically more explanatory whole.

Kind of like lazy atheism or agnosticism. They believe God left, so he's not here anymore. Like believing there was a Santa Claus but he isn't here anymore.

I just don't see the point to it.

What ? .. That God created the world

and then just sat back to watch what happened next without interfering.

Wouldn't that disprove almost all of the Old Testament (except the creation bit).

Deism is the most realistic of all religions. Another good one is Pantheism.

It's far more reasonable than any stripe of dogmatic theism.

    seems kind of pointless.

edit: what's the point in believing in god without organised religion? the two go hand in hand in order to control the masses, that is what religion is for.

It's just another 'ism' with no evidence to back it up.
