Do you have 2 adult cats that you got at different times? How long did it take for them to accept each other?

I have 2 adult rescue cats that were adopted about a year and a half apart. At first there was a fair bit of hissing and hiding, but as of yesterday, they are now playing with each other and seem to be starting to bond.

How long did it take your cats to cuddle up together and start grooming each other...or do they still not get that close?

Update:

By the way...I've had the 2nd cat for a week and a half now.

We've introduced adults to adults and had a range of responses. One walked in like he'd been living here for years and settled right in. Two others required the 2 week separation with doors between the resident cats and the newbies. One of those 'tested' every cat in the house and the one that ran was then picked on for the next 4 years. Two were introduced slowly with minimal segregation and while the females in the group hissed and swore at them, they all settled in without any other issue.

Take your time, swap out the areas the cats are in for about a week so they get used to each other's scent, and monitor the actual meeting.

Some cats never like each other. You're supposed to do an introduction EVERY time you bring in a new animal. This is what you should have done and it wouldn't have taken so long or been so traumatic.

Good news! They have been playing together for a week and started cuddling up together 2 days ago. :-)

By the way, the people from the rescue society brought her to my house and were happy with the introduction, so I went ahead with the adoption. Neither of them have bitten or scratched each other, the original cat was just hissing and avoiding the other for the first few days.
