Gender Studies: Do you think humanity will still exist 10,000 years from now? If so, which gender will dominate?
Not necessarily 'western' or technologically advanced humans, just our species in general. What roles do you expect men and women to play in the society of our distant descendants?
Mark: Agreed. It's tempting to write us off as a casualty of environmental destruction, nuclear world war, a bit rock from the sky e.t.c. But we are indeed stubbornly resilient... And part of that surely comes from our evolutionary history.

10,000 years is about the duration of "civilization". That's when the first large cities began to emerge. We have not changed a great deal in terms of societies since then.
Better technology, but many of those early societies had many of the features of modern societies.
So in another 10,000.... I see considerable advances in technology as technology tends to build upon itself. However, humans will not change to any remarkable extent.
We are still heir to our evolutionary past, despite what our creationist contributor says.
I don't see anything in the immediate future that would eradicate the human race. Any number of things like runaway pollution and it's effects or a major nuclear war...Might cause the collapse of contemporary civilization and billions of deaths....But we have very many billions of people all over the planet. We are adaptable, clever, resourceful, and breed quickly.
I don't see any great change in gender roles, again primarily due to our evolutionary history.

Two of the brightest minds of our time have issued warnings that artificial intelligence will be more advanced that humans in less than a decade. One of them even suggested that they/it will take over from humans in less than 100 years. When AI becomes dominant, our role in this world will become less important. I'm sure AI, being logical, will decide that humans are destructive, and not desirable. When we are no longer needed to repair and manufacture machines, we will probably be eliminated. I doubt this will be much over a couple of hundred years. Don't worry about 10,000 years in the future. We will be extinct. The victims of our own inventions.

1. I don't know.
2. Safest bet is none.
Humans exist for at least 100,000 years, and for the vast majority of this period (99%) lived in what we call the hunter gatherer society, an EGALITARIAN society, where no person or gender had any kind of dominance over others.
The HIERARCHICAL type of society we are familiar with, in which the powerful are above the less powerful, is something relatively very new that only goes on for a very short period relative to the life span of our specie.

I'd say the probability that humans will still be around in 10,000 years is well over 50%. I also believe the probability that males will still primarily dominate is also well over 50%.
