    No, it's probably x -> 0- .

    The string you wrote in your update has no meaning at all.

    I'm going to assume you want the limit as x approaches 0 from the negative domain. I think I have to consider whether "a" is positive or negative. If "a" is a positive number, then |x-a| = a-x when x is negative, and the limit will be -1/(x+a). If "a" is a negative number, then |x-a| = x-a when x is negative but near zero; so the the limit will be 1/(x+a). If a = 0, then you're looking at x -> 0- of |x|/x^2, which is +infinity.
