Can I light charcoal in a metal baking dish?

Update:

I have a gas bbq with no gas, so I'm using charcoal. I've got a large, sturdy metal baking dish to put the charcoal in and the grill on top, can any one confirm that this is safe and that the charcoal won't burn through it?

Also there aren't any holes in the dish, will this matter?

Just don't light it inside as it gives off carbon monoxide. We have had several deaths here in Australia in recent weeks from people burning coal inside the home.

No. How will you pick it up to dump it? You can't. go to walmart and by a starter chimney, or stack your coals like we did when my generation grew up. Let the coals get grey, then scatter them.

Only if you intend to kill yourself and anyone else in the house.

Outside probably indoors you will die of carbon monoxide.
