Jackson Mystiques vs. Jackson Artiste Figure Skates: Which to invest in?
Hi everyone!
I'm 17 (almost 18) and I am working in USFSA Levels Basic 4-8. I don't plan on moving up skating levels past Basic 8 (Waltz Jump).
I just recently traded in my Jackson Glacier skates. I'm looking to invest in new skates, but I've been debating between the Mystiques and the Artistes.
I was thinking of buying the Mystiques last year and I am kicking myself that I didn't. I don't want to invest in the Mystiques to realize a year later I should have invested bought the Artistes. I'm debating between the two because of the levels of ankle support. My left one is pretty terrible, it's been sprained about 8 times in my lifetime!
So please, give your honest opinions. I'm not going any higher than an Artiste, so please don't be like the lady at the store who was trying to convince me to buy Classiques or Freestyles for the extra money.
Thank you for any help!

Why wouldn't you want to move up past a certain level? You don't have any obligation to compete or start practising more when you learn more. I don't see why you'd want to stop yourself from learning more after your waltz jump. You could just keep doing what you're doing now, especially if you're still going to skate anyway.
If you're going to be doing waltz jumps I would really recommend the Classiques. Like the whole level thing, I really don't see why you wouldn't want to go up to the classiques. The blade is a lot better and so is the support. I have a weak ankle too and I went up to the freestyles around the same time you did. The classiques are perfect for you and your level and it'll help you keep your ankle safe. It'll also last heaps longer.
The lady was probably trying to get you the classiques because they're right for you, not for more money. Be careful making assumptions like that.
If you can't get the classiques, go for the artistes but you might regret it later.

I think you should get the Artistes. Mystiques are entry level and don't really have any support, and since you mentioned your weak left ankle, the extra support in the artistes would help.
I know you said you don't plan on going past basic 8 but are you absolutely 100% sure you don't want to spend the little extra for classiques? They're a step up from Artistes in support and usually come with a better blade. Also, are you planning on quitting skating or just not moving up levels anymore? Because your skates will continue to break down if you're still skating, even at a low level (slowly). Since your feet have probably stopped growing, it's a good idea to buy a decent pair of skates that will last a long time, as opposed to entry level skates that will wear down and need replacing very quickly.
Anyway, since you already said you don't want Classiques, I'd say go for the Artistes. Mystiques really aren't that great. The toe pick in particular is tiny and the boots lack support. They would probably last until basic 8 (depending on how heavy you are) but I think it's worth spending the little extra to get better ones.
