Is it normal for a 17 year old to have decent amount of blood in stool.?

Freaked out when seen, and then got very light headed. Is this a normal thing or should I go to the doctor?

Blood in they stool is usually VERY hard to see. the only thing that is noticeable is that the stool (turd) is BLACK, purple, or red. Sometime you will see red STREAKS.

Blood in the stool IS NEVER NORA ML, and you need to see a doctor, like RIGHT NOW. You could have internal bleeding, and possibly bleed to death in the next 24 hours.

    HOWEVER,

If you say tiny bits of bright read blood on the toilet paper, then YOU HAVE HEMORRHOIDS. its IS unusual for a teenager to have hemorrhoids, but if you wait too long to go to the bathroom at school, you can become constipated, and THAT will cause hemorrhoids.

Blood in eh stool IS NEVER NORMAL, and should always be seen by a doctor. But if you have hemorrhoids, this may not be life threatening.

See a doctor. Blood in the stool of a 17 year old indicates an issue that might need addressing. It could be hemorrhoids, though you're awful young for that people your age can have them. Blood can also come from straining to hard to go. The other issues could be a sexual injury if you partook in anal sex or it could be an ulceration, a polyp, or a tumor has developed, so definitely go to the doctor, especially if it persists or gets worse.

If it was a small amount and red it cud b cause of straining bowel movement or hemorrhoids. It it was black or looked similar to coffee grounds, it may indicate an internal bleed in G.I. tract. Regardless, your safest bet would be to go to a physician to be sure. You don't want to take chances with your health, it could be serious. Don't be embarrassed, this can happen to anyone. More likely, the doctor will check your complete blood count to see if your anemic, and will probably do a simple test, like stool for occult blood. This can at least rule out if your bleeding internally. If your experiencing shortness of breath or see you are losing allot of blood, don't wait on a doctors appointment, have parents take u to the ER....Good luck to you.

Actually, blood in the stool is never normal. It can be insignificant or not serious (ie from a hemorrhoid, although people can bleed to death from a hemorrhoid); to anything but should always merit a diagnosis.

NO, it isn't normal. At your age it almost certainly represents hemorrhoidal bleeding and not something more sinister. See a GI specialist for an evaluation.
