Who wants to officially ban the Confederate flag?
I keep hearing this claim from people on here but have seen no evidence that it is the case. Are these people just paranoid idiots?

I don't want to ban it because banning never works.. I do wish that states would not fly it on their government buildings. The Confederate flags were raised again during the 1960's protecting the Civil Rights movement. I don't really think that is a heritage to be proud of.
Texan with a dash of Louisianan.

I am just fine with anyone who wants to remove it from state capitols but from Civil War memorials... those to me are not to glorify slavery but to mourn a sad chapter in our history where we went to war with each other. I can celebrate Robert E Lee and consider him a military genius without condoning slavery just as I can mourn Sitting Bull and Col. Custer at the Little Big Horn. But paint over the General Lee? Do that and you no longer have an iconic piece of television history but a '70 Dodge Charger painted ugly orange!

These are the same paranoid idiots who believed the NRA when they said Obama was going to ban guns.

The Confederate flag should be removed from government buildings that are not museums. It is a flag of treason that was used to by Southerners to rip our country apart in hopes of creating an apartheid to continue to systematically subjugate and destroy black people. To say otherwise is a lie. I don't care if a private citizen wants to display on their car or hat because, while trashy and distasteful, it should not be a crime to be trashy and distasteful. It should not be flown on a state building any more than Germany should hoist a Nazi flag above their Bundestag, and I'll be damned if my taxes pay for it.

I'd be happy if it went away, and I think it has absolutely no place on government property or government-issued items, but ban it? No. Darned pesky Constitution.
