How do I find the correct vehicle computer in the junkyard?

So I was told on another Answers question that the reason my 96 Plymouth Voyager with a 3.3 is now severely overcharging (17.8V) is that the computer got a voltage spike (even though the only live circuit was the dome light) when I hooked the battery back up after some recent repairs. The alternator bench tested fine, so that (supposedly) only leaves the computer.

So I know there are multiple possibilities for each model of each year. I do have a junkyard here with several models across all three mopar badges for this vehicle. Can they cross over or do I have to have a very specific one. And once I get one, is there a way I should re-energize the system so I don't do this again (although I've hooked and un-hooked the battery dozens of times and this has never happened before).

Thanks in advance for your help

You don't. You find a PCM rebuilder and buy one that's fully programmed to your exact VIN. Costs about the same as a junk yard computer but it's already programmed and comes with a warranty. Nobody who knows anything about cars buys a junk yard computer.

Holy catfish! The PCM module [computer] has nothing to do with Alternator output. Geeze. Don't use internet advice!
