  • Relaxing a stretch in a carpet.?

So recently I had an area rug get wet when my portable A/C unit flooded. I figured it would dry faster if I put it outside since it's over 90*. I also figured having air circulation over AND under would help it to dry faster, so I tossed it over an engine cherry picker I had in my driveway. When I pulled it off a day later, the highest point of the cherry picker had made a 5" dia, 3" deep "stretch" in the carpet. Is there any way I can get that fabric to relax back to it's flat position? I've thought maybe renting a wallpaper steamer and steaming the area might relax the fibers and would help them pull back. Thoughts? Suggestions?

  • What gauge ground wire do I need for a 220V oven?

I'm installing an oven that has a gas range with an electric oven. The pigtail on the stove is a 4 prong (2 hots, a neutral, and a ground), and my available 220V outlet has only 3 prongs (2 hots and a neutral). So I need to run an additional ground wire to my breaker box and change the outlet, I just need to know how big of a wire to buy to safely handle this job.

  • 4 prong pigtail, 3 hole 220V outlet?

My new oven (gas range/electric oven) has a 4 prong pigtail on it (assuming 2 hot, 1 neutral, 1 ground). My house has a 3 pole (2 hot, 1 neutral) oven outlet now. Do I need to run all new wiring to my breaker box and buy a new outlet box for this stove, or can I just buy a new 3 prong pigtail and ground the unit some other way?

  • Is there a way to discover the yahoo handle of who votes on your comment forum comments?

I've had a stalker thumb down every single post I make for the past three months. Every day, like clockwork. I'd like to be able to confront him/her for being a coward and never posting, or at least troll them back.

  • I want to paint my lawn green. But I want it to actually KILL the grass. What do I use?

So my landlady is a freaking nosy NAZI. Every week she drives by and arbitrarily decides whether it's too tall ("too tall" has been anywhere from <2" to over 5"), has too many weeds (she had to look PAST the bottle of weed killer on my porch to see the lawn.) to the lawn is too brown. All of these offenses have brought a fine with a threat of eviction. So this year I figured I'll just paint the lawn green like they do in drought struck areas. But all of the products out there still allow the grass to grow. I want it to actually kill the grass and stop it from growing for the whole summer. What product would be the best to paint the lawn with? Latex paint? Oil based?

  • I need to make a "notification system" for a pass door in a medical facility.?

There is a little 3x9 tray inside, so I've thought about some type of momentary switch with a little LED light and a battery, but I'm not sure how to fabricate it.

  • Is my landlord trying to skip her responsibilities?

So my landlord is a total slumlord. She NEVER misses an opportunity to fine you $50 for ANY infraction of the lease, even arbitrary things like the grass is too tall, even though there is no set height of "too tall" in the lease.

Recently, during a heavy rain, a portion of my gravel driveway collapsed over where a water line was installed before I moved in. This is clearly "her" property. When I told her about it and stated that it was a trip hazard (the hole is a good 18" deep and right where people would walk up to my house, and covered by some weeds). She said she wasn't going to fix it and that I should just take a few shovelfuls of fill from the back lot and fill it myself.

If she were more relaxed about other infractions I'd have no problem doing that, but since she has fined me so many times for BS like too many leaves blown onto my porch, I'm not feeling very forgiving. My hesitancy is that if I make her fulfill her legal obligations and fix this hazard, she will retaliate against me by attempting to find even MORE things to fine me for. What should I do?

  • How much ester oil do I add to my cars A/C system?

Hello, I have a 96 Plymouth Voyager with a 3.3L and a front only A/C system. I had to replace the compressor due to bad bearings in the pulley. I have salvaged one from the junkyard and it is ready to receive new freon. All I need to know is how much ester oil to add to it so it is properly lubricated. Thanks in advance.

  • How much freon and ester oil does my van a/c system use?

Hello, I have a 96 Plymouth Voyager with a 3.3L engine. I found the little sticker that lists the amount of R-134a, but it list it as 3lbs. not in oz. like is on all the cans. I know there's 16oz in a lb, but 48oz of refrigerant seems a bit much. I seem to recall being told that my system takes 24oz. but I have not been able to verify this.

Also, since I am filling my system completely (I had to replace my compressor) and I salvaged one from a junkyard, how much ester oil should I put in when I refill the system?

  • How do I find the correct vehicle computer in the junkyard?

So I was told on another Answers question that the reason my 96 Plymouth Voyager with a 3.3 is now severely overcharging (17.8V) is that the computer got a voltage spike (even though the only live circuit was the dome light) when I hooked the battery back up after some recent repairs. The alternator bench tested fine, so that (supposedly) only leaves the computer.

So I know there are multiple possibilities for each model of each year. I do have a junkyard here with several models across all three mopar badges for this vehicle. Can they cross over or do I have to have a very specific one. And once I get one, is there a way I should re-energize the system so I don't do this again (although I've hooked and un-hooked the battery dozens of times and this has never happened before).

Thanks in advance for your help

  • My alternator is overcharging.?

So I have a 96 Plymouth Voyager with a 3.3L. My alternator worked just fine last week when I took the engine apart to change the rear three spark plugs (requiring the removal of the intake plenum and the wires to the alternator). When I reassembled it yesterday, the battery dash light came on, and so I checked the voltage across the battery and it was putting out more than 17 volts. So I pulled the alternator back out and checked the pins and connections which were all fine. I then took it to the local auto parts store and had it bench tested, which they said it passed with flying colors. I took it home and reinstalled it and it was still over-charging. When I asked what could cause overcharging, the guys at the auto store said the only thing that could cause that was a faulty regulator, but when I asked they said that alternator was internally regulated and it had just passed the tests.

So I ask all of you... what could possibly be causing my alternator to overcharge so radically?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

  • What size turbo should I buy for a 5.6L engine?

I'm going to put a turbo onto a 5.6L 345CI International Harvester V8. This is a fairly industrial, slow spinning engine from the factory. It currently has th spreadbore 4bbl on it, and as far as the engine itself, is more or less stock. I HAVE converted the fuel system to an LPG setup. currently it is a standard regulator/mixer setup off a snorkel on the carb. Once I get the turbo system on the engine, I will convert the LPG system to a BLOS LPG mixer with European regulator setup for the blow through turbo.

So what I am looking for is what size (preferably with part numbers, and what vehicle they might be salvaged from) of turbo impeller I should be looking for.

  • I A/C compressor leak questions?

I had to replace my A/C compressor on my 96 Plymouth Voyager Minivan. I bought a used unit from the junkyard. How much compressor oil should I add? Also, it keeps failing my leakdown vacuum test, should I install my new dryer before or after I add my U/V leak detector dye and bottle of compressed leak stop?

  • Can I use the intake on my compressor to pull a vacuum on my car air conditioner?

If I can get the fittings to hook my car air conditioning repair manifold to my regular Emglo air compressor intake, will it pull enough vacuum from the a/c system to effectively purge it before I add the refrigerant? Will it pull too much vacuum? Do I risk damaging either my A/C system or my compressor? The reason I ask is that 3-stage vacuum pumps are $150 and I already own the Emglo, and I'm just trying to avoid unnecessary expense.

  • Can my park landlord dictate what happens inside a structure that I own?

So I had to sign a laundry list of agreements to rent the lot space in a trailer park even though I own the trailer. One of the tennets is that there is a $300 per pet charge for pets, $100 of which is non-refundable for "paperwork". My question is: since I fully own the trailer and my cats are indoor animals, can this be enforced? Also, in the same vein, the List of prohibited items includes waterbeds, and when I informed the landlord that I was bringing mine no matter what, she simply shrugged and said, "I don't care. It's your trailer, do what you want with it." But when I asked about the cats, she was adamant about the fees.

  • Is this a reasonable settlement?

So my vehicle was destroyed on St. Paddy's Day. Completely the other guys fault. On impact both of my airbags deployed so it was a significant hit. I was largely uninjured, (I had my seatbelt on as well), but had a sore shoulder for several days and a nasty burn arc on my left arm from the airbag. Just to be on the prudent side, I got an X-ray of my collarbone in case it turned out to be more serious later. Thankfully it was not.

So their insurance company (Progressive) has offered to cover the medical bills ($220) and offered me a $500 pain and suffering settlement. Does this sound like a reasonable offer or should I ask for more?
