Is my landlord trying to skip her responsibilities?
So my landlord is a total slumlord. She NEVER misses an opportunity to fine you $50 for ANY infraction of the lease, even arbitrary things like the grass is too tall, even though there is no set height of "too tall" in the lease.
Recently, during a heavy rain, a portion of my gravel driveway collapsed over where a water line was installed before I moved in. This is clearly "her" property. When I told her about it and stated that it was a trip hazard (the hole is a good 18" deep and right where people would walk up to my house, and covered by some weeds). She said she wasn't going to fix it and that I should just take a few shovelfuls of fill from the back lot and fill it myself.
If she were more relaxed about other infractions I'd have no problem doing that, but since she has fined me so many times for BS like too many leaves blown onto my porch, I'm not feeling very forgiving. My hesitancy is that if I make her fulfill her legal obligations and fix this hazard, she will retaliate against me by attempting to find even MORE things to fine me for. What should I do?

Read your lease. See what it says about fines, and responsibilities for things like repairs. Stick to whatever the lease says. It's what you agreed to. If she tries to fine you for absurd things not included, you can put something in writing to her explaining why you're not paying because it's not what the lease says. If she tries to evict you, she'll lose. In the meantime, you might want to find another place to live.
