Is number portability law?
I'm receiving conflicting answers about whether the number I've had for the past 13 can be taken with me. It's a regional number out of the Pullman, WA area (509-330-xxxx) and I've moved to Boise. The previous provider said it should be portable, but my new choice of provider said it cannot. What's weird though, is I visited a telecom number availability site and it had numbers with the first seven digits the same that were listed as available. My dad also said that number portability is law

Under the Federal Communications Commission's "local number portability" rules, you can switch telephone service providers for wireline, wireless or Voice over Internet Protocol and keep your existing phone number if you remain in the same geographic area. If you are moving from one geographic area to another, however, you may not be able to take your number with you.
