Skyrim. Do I have to kill my current horse to keep shadowmere? How to keep shadowmere permanantly?
I just got shadowmere the horse from the Dark Brotherhood quests. I currently have just a regular horse I bought for 1000 gold. So I obviously want to make shadowmere my new steed. I'm probably just gonna kill my horse anyway cause 1000 gold is nothing to me. But I would just like some opinions. How can I get shadowmere to follow me around and spawn with me when I fast travel like my other horse did?

Shadowmere is a very jealous horse. Ride Shadowmere and NEVER ride any other horse.
If should forget and ride some other horse, then Shadowmere will literally disappear for Ten Days. Shadowmere will stay in the exact place he was when you got on the other horse, you can get him back 10 days after you stop using the other horse.
If Shadowmere is killed, he will respawn in the pool of water you originally found him. IF he dies in water elsewhere, he will respawn in that spot 10 days later.

You should be able to get Shadowmere to become your horse just by riding him (her?). I did the Dark Brotherhood questline with my 2nd character and Shadowmere goes everywhere with me, except indoors or into cities. If you fast travel to a city, Shadowmere will be in the stable. But I never had another horse before Shadowmere, so I could be wrong. And if you're playing on PC with any mods, or experience any game glitches, then ymmv.
