Chemistry Lab question about melting points/purities?

I know that if an experimental melting point you obtain is lower than the standard boiling point (given/theoretical) for that compound, then the compound you used has slight impurities. What does it mean though, if your experimental melting point is higher than that of the given data for that compound? thanks

    It means either:

    1) Your method for determining the melting point was faulty, or

    2) You've misidentified what you're taking the melting point of.

    it wont work
