How do you respond to "sorry for your loss" at funerals?

Do you say "thanks" or "it's okay" or what? I'm going to be hearing it a lot, so is it acceptable for me to just nod? Ughhhh.

However you feel naturally. Because they will feel for you so they won't judge.

By the way, I'm sorry for your loss. Go on, now you can comment what naturally comes to you and use that when they say it.

I'd probably say something to the effect of "Thank you. I appreciate it. Thank you for coming. I know that- (the name of the deceased- whatever that may be), would really appreciate you being here today, as I and my family do", in response to that, if that was said to me, at a family-member's funeral. Peace and love.

Say or do what works for you. As long as you acknowledge the person, there's no right or wrong way to respond.

You can just say thank you. People will understand that you're in mourning, so they won't be expecting a big thing. My condolences.
