Help with a railroad question?
I just got hired in to Norfolk Southern a while back and during the hiring session, I brought along a neighbor with me to the hiring session. I made it through the first go around-she didn't. When she went, she only had her temporary license, but they still interviewed her and allowed her to take the assessment test as well and stay for the hiring session. They asked about it initially and she told them that she's going to take her driving test pretty soon and she would have her regular drivers license before they even start training. She's a really good driver-she lost her licesnse because too much time lapsed when it expired and she had to start all over again. Something happened and she was unable to take the test-I guess car trouble. In the meantime her temps expired and she had to hurry and get another one and it was the day before Norfolk Southern would be back in town. Thinking that she would be able to sit in for the interviews again, she shows up with it and tries explaining to them that she already has the exam rescheduled, but they immediately turn her away. Why would they let her in the first time with the temporary permit, interview her and all, but not this go around? I asked her was the same people there and she said all of the same people who interviewed us were there except for the conductor who was not there, but was replaced by some bleach blonde HR lady. She was the one that told her to leave. They wouldn't even allow her to stay.
The same yardmaster who I will be working with after training was there and so was his little buddy that sat there not doing anything but text the whole time during the hiring session was there also. The only person not back was the black guy who we had that was the conductor-he was replaced by a blonde headed woman from HR. She did say that this blonde chick was a you know what to her and wouldn't hear it. When the conductor was there at the last one he was cool about it.
She lost her job and was forced to sell her car and hasn't driven in two years and this is why she didn't have her license. She went back to having a state ID and it wasn't anything she done illegal.

She was allowed to attend the FIRST meeting. She DID not follow up with what was needed for the second one. There are many others also applying. Obviously they had other Better qualified Candidates.
Sorry just almost having what is needed is not having what is needed.
The Railroad does not employ everyone that comes to an interview or meets MINIMUM qualifications. They select the BEST candidates.to proceed to the next step.
This is YOUR words
She's a really good driver-she lost her licesnse.
Must have done something wrong not to Keep it. Will she do the same with her training to work on train too.? Why would they risk it?
Many things go into a decision to hire. It is not just ONE item but a combination of things and ATTITUDE. Hint for the Railway because of how it works YOU MUST FOLLOW THE RULES for the train to be safe.
You friend has many excuses for not having what was required. NOW WHY did she really not get it as soon as possible. If it was critical for the next step.
Sadly using your words again
Thinking that she would be able to sit in for the interviews again, she shows up with it and tries explaining.
SHE THOUGHT WRONG. Different people can interpret the the rules in a different way. They are human and have to judge the entire package of what is presented at the interview. Each time you come back they are getting more strict on who goes to the next step.
