    Area = length x width. Length=x Width= 2x-2 Area= 112

    Now just plug those numbers into the formula to get 112= x(2x-2) ----> 112= 2x^2 -2x

    Simply (divide by 2) to get 56= x^2- x move the 56 to the other side and you will get

    0= x^2 -x -56 now just factor that and you'll get (x+7)(x-8) = 0 then find what makes that equation =0, and all you'd have to do is make of of the factors =0. So that would be -7 or 8. If you test your answers you'll see that the answer 8 does not check out the answer is -7, but some teachers might make you just put 7 because distances cannot technically be negative.

    let x is the width then the length is 2x

    +) the area of the rectangle is 112m^2

    => x .2x = 112

    2x^2 =112

    x^2 = 56

    x = sqrt of 56

    the width is sqrt of 56
