Updating from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10; what do I need to know?
I'm going to be updating to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. I'd like to know if there is anything I should know before updating, since I've never updated my Operating System before. What will happen to my files? Anything I've downloaded? :)

Sometime after July 29, 2015, when Windows 10 becomes available to the regular consumer who made their Windows 10 reservation, Microsoft will download the program to your computer in the background as to still allow you to use your computer. Following the download, Windows 10 will notify you on your computer that it is ready to install. You then will have options how and when to do the full install.
Prior to all of that, Windows 10 will check your computer and make sure there are no major hardware or other technical problems and will notify you of anything that you might have to do, with help. For most users the process will be seamless. Crossing fingers.
In short, you have to do nothing for now.
