Jews and some Christians: If God designed us, what's your argument for cutting off foreskins? Didn't God put that there for a reason?
I dont believe in God, but I'm still curious as to your reasoning.
I'm no expert on penis, (lesbian here) but if cleanliness is the only reason you have, are you saying that you'd rather cut off part of your child's body and risk infection instead of just pulling it back and washing? You guys do some weird things for no reason, but I think there's more to it.
Enlighten me Internet.

Point 1)
The Jewish people were to be set apart in their behavior. Circumcision was the sign of the covenant that God made with Abraham.
They were not to be sexually immortal like the pagan nations around them either.
The Jewish people were to behave differently from the surrounding cultures around them. Those cultures were very sexually immoral. God did not want His children behaving like that since they represented Him.
If an Israelite man decided to go over to them and act immorally – then the woman would immediately notice that he was “different”.
“Why?” she would no doubt ask.
The Jewish man would them be under conviction to tell her that their God commanded His people to be different. To behave differently…. Uprightly….
This would make him feel guilty no doubt and hopefully realize that he was misbehaving and turn (repent) and stop the sin he was in.
God always wants us to turn from sin and behave correctly.
This would definitely make an Israelite think twice before going over to the heathen for sin.
Point 2)
God is also MORE interested in the heart circumcision.... It was not just removal of bad sexual behavior, but all immoral behavior that God wanted. That means a person really needed a changed heart.
See what the Jewish prophets said....
"Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, circumcise your HEARTS, you men of Judah and people of Jerusalem, or my wrath will break out and burn like fire because of the evil you have done--burn with no one to quench it." (Jeremiah 4:4)
"Circumcise your HEARTS, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer." (Deut 10:16)
"Egypt, Judah, Edom, Ammon, Moab..... For all these nations are really uncircumcised, and even the whole house of Israel is uncircumcised in HEART." (Jeremiah 9:26)
So we see very clearly that external circumcision without a heart change is not appealing to God Himself. He wanted more than just an external cut.
That is why we need to have a changed heart (also called being Born Again – a new heart). Which is exactly what the Messiah of Israel prescribed.
Hope this helps!

Man was made "in the image of God" --
God is "the creater of all things" - and the most distinctly human thing about human beings is our constant and incessant drive to create.
And what is the most primal creative "canvas"?
The one thing under human control from the start of humanity and always -- The human body.
Thus, in the most primal expression of the human creative impulse,
human beings from the late Neaderthals onwards done body modification.
In fact, the creation of the Science of Chemistry -- the earliest manufacture of pigments was done for the purpose of body modification!!
Specific types of body modification were done to build identity -- to identify family, tribe, nation.
The specific Jewish type of body modification -- as a mark of being the children of Abraham (and therefore shared with Arabs) is the removal of the foreskin.
Religiously speaking -- it is the sign of one of the covenants (contracts) between God and Abraham.
Perhaps one of the reasons God put it there was precisely so its removal could become a sign.

Why don't you ask why God created foreskin so that it COULD be cut off?

Since when is it a good idea to think "I'm going to cut my baby boys penis today!" SCALPEL! I'm not sure, chick I haven't found it in The Bible yet.
